Is it safe to transcribe meetings? How Lumespeak protects your data

Published on September 15, 2026 · 4 min read

Transcribing a meeting means running its content through a program - so it's fair to ask what happens to that audio and text afterward. Here's the straight answer: what Lumespeak does, and doesn't do, with your data.

Audio is never stored

Your meeting's sound is processed in real time and discarded. Lumespeak does not keep a recording of the call. What remains is only the text transcript - and only if you're signed in and choose to save it to your history.

Encrypted in transit

All traffic between your computer and Lumespeak uses HTTPS/WSS. No one in between (café network, office Wi-Fi, your provider) can read what flows through.

Your transcripts are private

When you save a meeting, it stays in your account - only you can see it. You can delete any meeting whenever you want, and deleting it also removes its segments.

Encryption: only you hold the key

Your meeting history is encrypted by default. Each transcript is encrypted on your device with a key derived from your password - the server only stores the ciphertext and can't read it. You get a recovery code (keep it safe: it's the only way to recover your history if you forget your password). So even in a database leak, your conversations stay unreadable.

No bot in the call

Many apps join the meeting as a "recording participant," which clashes with compliance policies and makes everyone uncomfortable. Lumespeak captures your computer's audio: nothing joins the call and no one on the other side sees a thing.

Account protection

Passwords are stored hashed (never in plain text), there's optional two-step verification by email, and sign-in is protected against repeated login attempts.

Transparency: where AI comes in

To transcribe and translate, the audio and text pass through AI providers (such as Google, via Gemini) solely to generate the result in real time - then it's discarded. We don't sell your data. Because the processing is done by an external service, avoid transcribing confidential information without authorization and check your company's rules before using it in corporate meetings. Privacy isn't a detail: it's what lets you use transcription at work without worry. Discarded audio, encrypted traffic, a private history and no bot in the call - that's how Lumespeak treats your data.
